General Rules

Event/Venue Rules

  • No wireless controllers!
  • Turbo buttons are not allowed.
  • Equipment issues will require a decision made solely by Texas Showdown directors.
  • You must provide your own controller/joystick. Texas Showdown staff will not lend out any controllers/joysticks.
  • Blind select is available by request.
  • Programmable controllers and/or turbo functions are banned, and if a player is found using any such function will immediately forfeit the game.

Conduct

  • Gambling is not allowed in the tournament area.
  • Cheating is not tolerated and will result in immediate ejection.
  • Alcoholic beverages are not allowed unless you are in the restaurant area of the hotel.
  • Taking a loss to manipulate brackets/pools is poor sportsmanship and will result in disqualification from the tournament.
  • Anyone caught stealing Equipment from the event or possessions from another person will result in criminal prosecution.
  • Anyone caught fighting will result in immediate ejection from the tournament and a ban from future tournaments.

Fighting Game Rules

Dead or Alive 5: Final Round (Playstation 4)

  • One game is best of five rounds.
  • One match is best of three games.
  • Double Elimination
  • Normal Life Setting
  • 60 Second Time Limit
  • Dangerzones are on
  • Random Stage select
  • Winner Lock – Winner must stay same character, Loser may pick
  • Random character can be chosen, but if the player wins they must choose the same character for the second match.
  • Blind pick is allowed

Guilty Gear Xrd (Playstation 3)

• Game version: PlayStation 3
• Game Settings: Versus Mode, 2/3 Rounds, 2/3 Games
• If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds, the match will be random stage select.

Killer Instinct (Xbox One)

  • Double elimination
  • One game is best of three rounds.
  • Grand Finals is the best of five games.
  • Round timer: 99 seconds.
  • Winner cannot change character.
  • Loser can change character.
  • No game breaking exploits, bugs, or anything that causes the system to crash.

Mortal Kombat X (Playstation 4)

  • One game is best of three rounds.
  • One match is best of three games.
  • Grand finals consist of three out of five games.
  • After a game has concluded, winner must stick with same character and variations for the next game.
  • Loser has option of switching character and also taking player side of choice.
  • Game breaking glitches are banned.
  • Fatalities are allowed.
  • Turbo button features are NOT allowed.
  • Pausing a game will result in forfeit of that round unless the opponent chooses to waive this option.
  • Tournament is double elimination.

Persona 4: Arena Ultimax (Playstation 3)

  • Double elimination
  • One game is best of three rounds.
  • One match is best of three games.
  • Grand Finals is the best of five games.
  • Round timer: 99 seconds.
  • No Unlimited characters
  • Winner cannot change character.
  • Loser can change character.
  • No game breaking exploits, bugs, or anything that causes the system to crash.

Super Smash Bros Melee (Nintendo Wii)

General Rules

  • Game Settings: 4 Stocks, 8 Minute Time Limit
  • Items are disabled.
  • Stalling with moves such as Jigglypuff’s Rising Pound or Peach’s Wall Bomber is banned
  • Glitches such as Ice Climbers’s Freeze Glitch and Mewtwo’s Soul Stunner are banned.
  • Pause option is disabled in the game menu. If left on, accidental pausing mid match forfeits a stock.
  • You may not choose any stage you have won on during a set, unless agreed by both players.
  • A tie is determined by most stocks, and then if still tied, by percentage. If percentage is tied, the match is fully replayed.
  • Playing as Master Hand is banned

Match Procedure

  • Players select their characters. Either player may choose to Blind Pick. In this case, each player secretly tells a third player their character before picking with the third player verifying their selections.
  • Players play Rock-Paper-Scissors. Winner chooses between selecting controller port or first Stage Strike
  • Players take turns removing stages from the Neutral Stages list above based upon the results of the previous rule. The first player to strike removes one(1) stage from the list, the second player removes two(2), and the first player then chooses from the remaining two(2) stages.
  • The players play the first match of the set
  • Winning player of the preceding match bans a stage from the full list of stages, both Neutral and Counter-Pick. Does not apply to Best of 5 sets.
  • The Losing player of the preceding match picks a stage for the next match. Cannot choose the stage banned in the previous step, nor a stage they’ve already won on during this set, unless agreed.
  • The winning player of the preceding match may choose to change characters.
  • The losing player of the preceding match may choose to change characters.
  • The losing player of the preceding match may change their controller port.
  • The next match is played
  • Repeat Steps 5 through 10 for all subsequent matches until the set is complete.

Super Smash Bros for WiiU (WiiU)

  • Game version: US Nintendo WiiU
  • Game Settings: 2 Stock, 6 Minute Time Limit, Items Off, Equipment Off, 2/3 Games
  • Amiibo’s are banned.
  • Order of events: Pick characters, then stage striking, then custom move selection.
  • Custom moves are allowed. See THIS document for allowed sets at the tournament.
  • Available Stages:: Battlefield, Final Destination, Smashville, Lylat Cruise, Town & City, Castle Siege, Delfino Plaza, Duck Hunt, Halberd
  • All Omega stages are banned.
  • Following stages decided by winner banning one stage from all stages and then loser choosing.
  • First stage is decided by banning from the Starter Stages in P1(1)-P2(2)-P1(2)-P2(2)-P1(1) order.
  • Winning player is not locked into the same character for the next match, but has to pick before loser selects character.
  • You may not choose a stage you have already won on unless mutually agreed to.
  • You may not play on a stage that is not on the available stages list. This will result in a double disqualification.
  • Maximum allowed time between games is 60 seconds. Any player violating this rule will be issued a loss.
  • There will be no loading anything on to the consoles from a Nintendo portable gaming system.
  • Allowed controllers: WiiU Pro Controller & GameCube Controller.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (Playstation 3)

  • One game is best of five, 80-second rounds.
  • One match is best of five games.
  • Grand Finals is the best of five games.
  • Random stage select will be used.
  • Winner must select the same character, loser may switch.
  • Blind select is available by request.
  • All DLC characters are available for use.
  • SOLO mode is banned.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Xbox 360)

  • One match is three out of five games.
  • Grand finals is the best of five games.
  • After a game has concluded, winner must stick with same team and order for the next game.
  • Loser has option of switching team and order and also taking player side of choice.
  • Game breaking glitches are banned.
  • Galactus is banned.
  • Turbo button features are NOT allowed.

Ultra Street Fighter IV (Xbox 360)

  • One game is best of three, 99-second rounds.
  • One match is best of three games.
  • Grand Finals is the best of five games.
  • Winner must select the same character and ultra, loser may switch.
  • Blind select is available by request.
  • Programmable controllers and/or turbo functions are banned, and if a player is found using any such function will immediately forfeit the game.
  • Pausing a game will result in forfeit of that round unless the opponent chooses to waive this option.
